Propose Research

MATES in Construction will participate in projects either as instigator or major / participating partner where such projects align with the organisation's strategic priorities and where the project aligns with the research priorities identified by the MATES in Construction Research Reference Group.

How?

Engagement with MATES

Industry-Based Focus
Research projects involving MATES must be industry-based with a workplace focus. While research may be conducted within individual workplaces, the design and purpose must clearly demonstrate relevance to the industry as a whole. It is the responsibility of the research team to explain how their proposed project will benefit or inform the broader industry when submitting a proposal.

Sponsorship Requirement
Researchers must first secure the sponsorship of a MATES organisation by engaging with the relevant CEO—state or national, depending on the project’s scope and design. We recommend submitting a detailed proposal.

Initial Contact
Before submitting the proposal, please complete the contact form

This will notify the relevant CEO that you intend to submit a research proposal for their consideration.

Research Reference Group Review
Once sponsorship is secured, the research proposal will be forwarded to the MATES National Research Reference Group (RRG) for review. The RRG will provide feedback to both the CEO and the lead investigator regarding the quality, feasibility, and alignment of the proposed project.

Incorporating Feedback
The CEO and the research team will work together to address any feedback from the RRG before proceeding with the project.
